Our History

Tucked beneath the gentle slopes of Largo Law, The Upper Largo Hotel has been a quiet fixture in the village for centuries. Originally a 17th-century coaching inn, the building still holds on to much of its old charm—thick stone walls, cosy corners, and a timeless sense of welcome that makes it feel more like a home than a hotel. Over the years, it’s grown and adapted, but never at the cost of its character.

In the early 1970s, the hotel saw one of its biggest transformations. A stone extension was added, new bedrooms were built, and the inside was refreshed with a lounge bar, cocktail area, and restaurant that quickly became known for hearty, comforting meals—think prawn cocktails, steaks, and generous plates of fish and chips. These touches helped bring the hotel into the modern age while keeping its warm, familiar feel.

Today, The Upper Largo Hotel continues to offer that same blend of tradition and comfort. Its conservatory-style restaurant serves up seasonal, locally sourced dishes with a view of the Firth of Forth, and its inviting bar pays quiet homage to the area’s golfing roots. Whether you’re dropping in for a meal, staying the night, or just enjoying a drink by the fire, there’s a gentle charm here that makes it hard to leave.
